Mow the meadow party
Now is the time to mow the meadow! And it has an effect! It will lead to many more wild flowers next year – hay meadows are the places in Norway with the most biodiversity. At the same time it produces winter food for the horses. And then there is a great opportunity for an outdoor party with live music and dancing. But first – how do we use the scythe, and how do we get into the satisfying dance of mowing that can occur? We will learn how to sharpen the scythe because that makes the work twice as fast, and how to hang up on the hay. This will prepare the meadow for next spring when we will sow local wildflower seeds. This year is the second year, or perhaps the second in a thousand years, when that field is not under the plow and sown with grain or grass. Last year, almost not a single flower blossomed, even though there were an enormous amount of flowers elsewhere in the grazing areas. So there is a great chance for improvement when it comes to nectar for next year’s bumble bees butterflies and all kinds of winged small insects. And thus more food for the bird children next summer!
